ROLEX: Gentleman's stainless steel Oyster "Solar Aqua" jewel lever manual wind watch, circa 1943. Stainless steel "boy's size" case with polished domed bezel, screw down Oyster Patent crown, screw case back signed and numbered inside (RWC Ltd., Oyster Watch Co., 2784), in very good used condition. Rare original "military" two-tone dial with outer minute track, bold arabic numerals, red 24 hour track in the centre of the dial, signed Solar Aqua, Anti-Magnetic, and Swiss Made. Blued steel pencil hands and red centre seconds hand. Original nickel plated 17 jewel Swiss made lever movement, recently serviced and in very good working order. Fitted with a black leather strap. This watch was made for the Canadian market, and proved very popular with World War II air force pilots (as a private purchase to wear in place of a military issue timepiece), due to the very legible 24 hour dial. Stainless steel "boy's size" case with polished bezel, and original screw down Oyster Patent crown, in good re-polished condition. Screw case back lightly etched "Capt. A. Macnair, Royal Signals", with some light scratches, and marking to the coin-edge. Slightly mottled off-white dial with outer minute track, bold arabic numerals, and subsidiary seconds dial, signed Rolex Oyster Precision. Blued steel hands. Original nickel plated Rolex jewel lever movement, recently serviced and in very good working order. Fitted with a complementary dark brown leather strap. This watch dates from around World War II, and probably saw active service during the War. The highly legible dial is very typical of military issue watches of this period. Model 2280M SOLD (#3835)
